Our most popular release from our January 2018 film catalogue, winning 27% of the vote on our Google+ Poll is Dark Tower. Based on a Steven King novel and starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey.

For those who haven’t read The Dark Tower like myself, the film appears to be a dark alternate reality aimed at young teens and definitely fits the bill with it’s lead character Jake played by Tom Taylor ‘The Last Kingdom (2015) and Legends (2014)’ who has dark visions of the Gunslinger (Idris Elba) and the Man In Black – not the Johnny Cash version, fighting over the Dark Tower a structure that holds our universe and the Gunslingers universe together. With the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey) wanting to destroy it to end everything – as he says in the trailer ‘Death always wins’. And so begins the battle of good versus evil, with not just one but two universes at stake.

From box office results taken from October 2017, The Dark Tower has grossed $111 million worldwide, against it’s production budget of $60 million. This overall seems pretty good despite it’s generally negative critical response. However as we know from past screenings like ‘Mamma Mia!’ for instance, a film doesn’t necessarily need the critics seal of approval to be a success at our mobile cinema events. However I imagine the dark and gritty tone of the film may prevent it from reaching our screens anytime soon. Unlike our most popular alternate reality film of all time, the original Jumanji. It will be interesting to see how the new Jumanji fares when it will be released to us later in the year.

The Dark Tower is currently available for Road Movie Mobile Cinema events. Please contact us for a film copyright quote for your next pop-up outdoor or indoor cinema event in South Australia or Victoria
