‘It gets under your skin’ ★★★★1/2 Star Review Of The Gift (2015)

1★★★★1/2 Star Review Of The Gift (2015)
Thriller, Rated M, 108 mins.
Starring: Jason Bateman, Joel Edgerton, Rebecca Hall.

A husband and wife try to reinvigorate their relationship but their lives are threatened by a “friend” from the husband’s past who holds a horrifying secret about him, sending their world into a tailspin.

It’s quite scary how someone can infiltrate your life and turn it upside down. In fact it seems quite easy to unnerve someone to the point of becoming the stuff of nightmares with no violence or weapons at all. Instead we are unnerved by a gift or several in this case.
What starts out as a regular psychological thriller, involving a kind but creepy guy hanging around a couple like a bad smell. Slowly escalates into something more complex and becomes compelling viewing. It gets under your skin, it makes you think and it makes you realise everything has its consequences. Including a finale, that sat very awkwardly with me, while at the same time tying it all up in a neat little bow.

Review out of five stars: ★★★★1/2 Stars.
